The Girl I Left Behind Poem by Bryan Taplits

The Girl I Left Behind

Recalling now those years ago
The days of once sublime
I shiver still, my eyes in tow,
For that Girl I Left Behind.
Those days they shone with yellow sun
And fragrant lilacs bloomed all year
But now as I grow aged, the sun is naught but dun
And the days now all nights,
I fear.
Presently, now I linger
as I re-live my skimming past,
Recounting foes I once had best-
On my mount I recount
the triumphs I had,
But now my days swim by much too fast.
I see her now and here she comes,
She takes my hand, sweatsoaked now I confess
And then she comes,
Her blessed grip,
and at last, at last,
my rest.
