The Generation Gap Poem by Gerry Legister

The Generation Gap

My ancestors were also yours
Their adventures I will not oppose
What victory extols like wining trophies
The fantasy of life fable story chooses

To a progenitor's linage truth be owe
The service upon which we mutely frown
The generations we may never know
Have the right to choose title and crown

In an epoch brimming with danger
With so many stories to lead us astray
The deeds gone by are not a stranger
The gap opens the doors to a new day

Together to merge and gradually purged
The stain hides in the sublime with disdain
Subtly restrained, subdue and renewed
humanity carried the grief-filled burden

History is like the gentle waterfall
Cascading through the gap at dawn
Only a listening heart will hear its call
Rise in the mind as a torrid storm

Intrigue everywhere far too brief
The requiem praise of hidden paradise
Apocalypses dispel the silence of grief
But the truth revealed no more disguise

Our fate is waiting to appease the pain
But our worst distemper will unfurl
In a world we gained, the evil retrained
Fear anxiety till the awakened by spirit call
