The Fossil Poem by Sandra Black

The Fossil

Rating: 5.0

When you find that shriveled fossil
Many million years from now
Test it for fidelity
And it will soon bestow

A wisdom about its faithful life
How it was once a dedicated wife
How it ended its life in strife
When it met a faithless beau

Its life was lonely you can see
She fed and thrived on your pity
She lived alone for eternity
A virtual life she could not take

She left you for sanity's sake
She wanted more
She wanted to soar
She felt life was such a bore

She lived a life
Like a candle in the wind
And then one day
She felt the wild wind

It nourished her very soul
Even as it blew her out whole
She was no longer alive
To do that she had to die
