The First San Franciscan Poem by Raj Dronamraju

The First San Franciscan

Feeling inconvenient with nothing left to say
To explain yourself is not communication
To buy Ghirardelli chocolate and watch/hear seals chortle in the bay

Botany Bay Pantomime
Least but not last in all rights of tenancy
Relaxed grip surrogates seeking new arrangements

Agent PBD goes wild in the countryside
He takes off his shoes and socks, he eats peanut butter and jelly straight from the jar
Let's be civilized again, drink from the glass not from the bottle

Agent PBD offers manic greetings to everyone he meets
Finds sympathy hard to come by as heroism is too tough to define
This heroism suffers under glass, the pea under the princess's mattress

Agent PBD naps between outings and between disputes
Sweats it out in a post-anxiety stateroom, does not suffer practical discipline
Nor negotiates his surrender in Coit Tower with an iPhone
