The Finishing Line Poem by Deanna Samuels

The Finishing Line

My dear contemporaries and those of similar age
Don't race to the finishing line, just take life leisurely
Ease off the speed pedal, keep a cautious foot on the brake
Why push yourself too quickly to that final checkered flag
Enjoy the view, enjoy each day, enjoy family and friends

Not to reach that beaconing tape is a daily victory
There, at that line there is nothing to gain, no glory
No golden crown awaits to adorn a happily held up head
No engraved silver cup to hold up high above a beaming face
No cheering crowds to look on, to applaud and to praise

Make every moment of your life of every day count
Take your time to indulge in all what matters to you
Ease up, no rush to get to that last goal, that final tape
Once breached there is no return, the last lap, oblivion
Keep clear, take a long diversion from that finishing line
