The Fatal Hour Poem by Laurence Overmire

The Fatal Hour

Did I catch the moment
Preserve it in ink
Give my mind to the significance
Of the quest?

Did I make my stand here
To stay the test of immortality?

Or did I measure my life too short
And miss the opportunity?

I leave it to you, mad mistress
To take me to task or give me liberty
To speak in the speechless time

That turns my bones to ash.
