The Dream Came To Past Poem by G. Akanji Olaniyi

The Dream Came To Past

Through the closed eyes of the martyrs
Bloodstained backs of the slaves
Cuts brought out through lashes of horsewhips
The cries of the dead ponies reverberate loud
Drops of hot sweats that watered the plantations
The struggle for freedom
Nay liberation
May be emancipation
Amidst the shout for emancipation
Countless struggles for freedom
Those fights against segregation
And liberation of the colored race
Those un-lightened skins of African slaves
Ferried across many seas and oceans
In the under bellies of crooked wooden ships
Overloaded with articles and stinking fleshes
Through months of strangled motion
In bangles of metal chains
And sessions of bargains of commercial exchanges
The dream streamed through the eyes of them
Them, the varied freedom fighters
Form the lands of Africa
Through the streets of America
Steve Biko, Julius Nyerere, Obafemi Awolowo
Partice Lumumba, Kenneth Kaunda, Jomo Kenyatta
Nnamdi Azikwe, Tafawa Balewa
The dream seen on their faces
Frederic Douglass, Malcolm X, Harry T Moore
Emmett Till, James Chaneey, Medgar Evers,
George W. Lee, Bobby Hutton, Leon Jordan
Fred Hampton, Ida B. Wells, Ella Baker
Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King
They dreamt their dreams
Saw it and spoke about it
It came to past in a man
Of variegated blood mix
It came to past
Their dreams came to past.
Alas! It must move on
