The Distant Lagoons Poem by Benjamin Chiu Uy

The Distant Lagoons

The Distant Lagoons

I remember you as old as the sea,
I was rowing to reach the shores,

The sea gull's cries plaintive as a wish on sunny day to see your brilliant face,

It's almost like a wish, a distant plain where we should settle and make a family there,

Away from the maddeningcrowd of strangers from whichI don't belong,

I know your heart will love it's tranquility there and enjoyed the evenings,

Just like tonight were sailling to that distant lagoon of our favorite islands,

And the islands is the myth, the song, a favorite poem we share alone.

And if my vision is too naivefor an illusion,

Count me as a cloak of unweary happiness trying to steal your breath away.
