The Dirge Of A River Comments

Rating: 4.7

My eyes were hooked on to the West
Feasting on the riot of colors the sun had cast
I stood dazed at a sight so blest
That any poet would treasure with zest

Your anguish over the blatant pollution of river is apparent in every line.Unless all people are concious of the hazard of such environmental pollution, we can not save the earth.

It does not matter which river, many rivers today are in this state. A poem written with deep feelings, and the lovely expressions seem to come from these feelings. Great work indeed.

This is very moving and powerful poem which expresses so accurately our anxieties. Luckily in the North West of England in particular Cumbria there is little Industry so the streams tend to be clear but fifty miles to the South there is much pollution and our canals have become dumping grounds for old bikes, prams etc. It really is a Doomsday scenario,

Wonderful poem. Seeing those half dried polluted rivers is the best reminder of Man's callous, irresponsible behavior. It is unbelievable how much this beautiful earth has been subjected to ugliness just in half a century.

'I thought of man's callous audacity In assaulting Nature's pristine vitality. .................. Suddenly I saw with the eyes of a seer That Doomsday is drawing near! ' What a telling description of man's callous treatment of nature. You really sound prophetic in forewarning about the consequences of this neglect.. A great write, Valsa.

Very precise and to the point. The river that used to run so free is now stopped up with bottles, debris, oil and so many other things. The earth sad to say have had enough. Your dirge rings loud and clear. Inspiring.

Our world is so full of both horrors and beauty. Not all horrors can be fixed, but this is one that should, since so many lives depend on it. Its ironic how humans can keep swimming pools cleaner than we keep our rivers, oceans, and seas. If we carry on like this doomsday is near indeed! A write both saddening and provoking, well done Valsa! My favorite verse below: I closed my eyes and turned my head And looked away from the river bed I thought of man’s callous audacity In assaulting Nature’s pristine vitality I heard the river’s rising lament And me it did acutely torment That torment has become poetic, and has transcended the bounds of literature. ~Nika

A beautiful composition on a burning issue...you do many things in a single poem, set and adjust fine phrases fully worked out, infuse life to lifeless objects raising them as images for all to visualize, you stay diagnostic, stay sympathetic...poetry is your healing office Valsa ji...
