As a sympathetic jester, flowers are for the loved ones who remain, to speak out that we loved the departed one also, not as a guilt offering.

Thank you for reading my poem, Bill Cantrell. Flowers laid on the grave of the departed to speak out that we loved them? ? ? Precisely what the poem is saying - the dead cannot smell the flowers and they cannot hear what love you are trying to express, perhaps to tell people around that you loved them (which does not really matter.)
