The Cycle Of War Poem by Jordan Aston

The Cycle Of War

In a time long gone, a time far away
There was a war, you could hear fighting each day
You never really heard things but you knew what would come
There would always be news, tales of the unfortunate some

Then came despair, families would cry
As their son had left, they didn't get to say goodbye
For they were one of the unfortunate some, the ones who died
But forever they were remembered, knowing they tried

They fought for peace for the people all around
Some lived, but some ended 6 ft under the ground
They believed in serenity, it was all in vain
For in a time to come wars would break out again

And in that time, the things people shall recall
Reminders of the sacrifices, of how the soldiers shall fall
And as memories grow, like flowers grow from stem
Red poppies show how we will remember them

Yet every death of the fighting men
Is in vain as it's a cycle
A cycle of history repeating again,
And again, and again, but no matter what, in the end
We shall always remember them
