About how our souls are the core of our beings and that no matter how much we can outwardly change, our souls always remain our selves. Evocative and holy.

This is a Poem of the Soul - you use the word CORE to give the reader a visual parallel to your meaning. It is the steadfast interior of each of us; it is the source of energy and the guide of outer change but remains whole and complete despite external changes. And the common table around which your loved ones gathered gave you the opportunity to witness and assess this process. This is an elusive, often missed moment but you have preserved in your poem because of your keen attention during the dinner. The outer Nika was a participant, the inner Nika was an observer. The poem celebrates both Nikas!
