The Constellations' Songs Poem by Stephen Omolori

The Constellations' Songs

Last night, when I could not find any sleep,
I stumbled on the constellations practicing.
The harmonies from their strings got so deep
Into my heart without them even noticing.
When the harmonies from their pianos grew,
I saw fireflies become the shape of a heart.
Like a gazelle's where grasses blossom thro' & thro',
My thirst died when their fluters did their art.
Enraptured by the harmonies that they made,
I saw nightingales hit impossible notes.
When it became the time for the night to fade,
They were all ferried home by golden boats.
All night long they sang all the songs that I
Wrote for the woman I hate to see cry.
