Nearly Midnight And He's Not There …..[fantasy; Loneliness; Deadline; Inspired By Lora Colon's Poem On P H: The Clock] - Poem by Bri Edwards How your mind races as you await your true lover! You lie shivering and primed beneath your bed cover. Shivering with sexual tension, you stare at your clock, …. …..whose face stares back and spouts: ‘Tick-tock, Tick-tock'. What will happen if he's not there by ‘stroke of midnight'? That he'll never show up fills you with a horrible fright! Eleven-thirty. He's not there; your heart pounds in your chest. So …..turn on TV to reruns of: …..Father Knows Best! One minute to twelve. Does the clock smirk AND ‘stare you down'? Does its incessant ‘Tick-tock' make you feel …like a clown? Then GRAB your clock and disarm it! ! That's your solution …..to keep midnight ‘at bay' and kill Tick-tock pollution. [I'm waiting.] Feeling better now? (October 19th 2017)
But all with be forgiven if he gets there by five minutes past 12 with a hurried excuse about midnight hour's traffic...This is a powerful poem on love and longing. Love the 'starless ceiling' and 'bitter cup, devoid of cheer'.
