Definitely vanity is the powerful aspect of an artist. Very neatly presented such a beautiful poem. Wonderful.
Powerful piece of poetry nicely penned in poetic diction with insight. You really captured the essence of the poem with what I believe (I don't know the rules of the game of Chess) is an appropriate simile to drive home your conviction. I concur with your perspective.
