The Caduceus Poem by Alfred Barna

The Caduceus

Snake on a pole
Always longing for complete control
Without conscience and without soul
You slither and hiss
For a 30-shekel kiss
Just a snake on a pole

You want to rise above all
Yet there you Lie, you just crawl
Mongering merely in the dust
Simply not one anyone should trust
As I walk you tempt, bruise my heel
Take any measure you can steal

Snake on a pole

You say mortals will never reveal me
You give me poisons and say they will heal me
All the while they make, me weak and sick
You profit as you slide up on that stick
You are a beast that knows time is short
All you do is promote vice to present in court

Snake on a pole

My defense attorney has cleared my past
The Judge will take you instead and Cast
Into the fires you accuser of filth and crime
Into your molten cell you will spend the time
All that you hoped for us to suffer, you reap all sown
Into that chasm you and your minions be thrown

Snake on a pole
