This is an excellent poem and so very sad, since the relationship betwixt father and son is not good.5 Full Stars for this amazing Modern Poem Of The Day! Congratulations, dear David!
But life cannot be lived in the abstract And begs for certainties that it once knew: I look into the mirror, but it's cracked; broken mirror.. like it. tony

''I look into the mirror, but it's cracked''- life has broken dreams that need ''cohesion'' to reach the goals. ''But life cannot be lived in the abstract''. An excellent visual metaphor is '' Nights melt the shadow ''- there is no shadow in the absence of light (at the night) and there is no suffering in the absence of life(in death) . The inner defense shows the ending- excellent poem. Voted 10.
Life! ! Looking into the mirror. Thanks for sharing this poem with us.
It is like reminding oneself again and again that there is nothing left be cheered about and the end is round the corner and 'Luggage largely packed.... little left to do', May be disappointments? I look into the mirror, but it's cracked. My life is almost over; that's my fact.
One of the few times I tolerate rhyme without a frown is in the course of a well-turned villanelle. Berman does an exemplary job with it here using the villanelle's natural prismatic qualities to best advantage, mimicking the kaleidescopic effect of the cracks in a mirror. Further, the turning in on itself naturally lends to the meditative state induced by coming to the end of one's life. A very noble marriage of form and content.
