well, i only noticed 2 or 3 lines dealing possibly with the bitter aspect. i was fortunate enough to enjoy, as a child, much of the sweet part, without doing much of the work part!
but i did think of other, Unmentioned bitter items. such as: not all human kind believe(s) in the same set of religious principals/restrictions/faith. many humans are non-Christians but still religious, while many are not religious at all in the conventional way of thinking. this, like many differences in Mankind, can and does cause problems for humans.
other bitterness that came to my mind: not all who celebrate/believe in CHRISTmas can enjoy the 'luxuries' of warmth, fine food, silver and china, or even a modest tree to decorate.
a nicely done poem, but obviously from the point of view of an aging, 'privileged' poet! no offense meant.
bri :)

one of my favorite parts:
Suddenly over, family departed, the house becomes a vacuum,
An echo of tomorrow's emptiness.................i assume this is one 'bitter' part of the 'holidays' for some.
well, Happy Holidays to you, Lynn. ;) :)
