A ribbon of materialism blinds us
Closing our eyes to the truth
In our pursuit for temporal satisfaction
We erased our inherent instincts to Love
We shredded our communal responsibilities
Replacing them with individualism and competition
We found pleasure in the business of accumulating things
And stayed away from feeding the poor and caring for the sick
We are disgusted by the nature of our true selves
And we trample on the path of the spirit
We gather around materialism
And worship daily
In our busy schedules and tight timelines
We forgot one another
And refused to love our neighbours as we love ourselves
We tended our gardens
And neglected our hearts
We embraced new technologies
And rejected silence and prayer
We opened new avenues of wealth creation
And abandoned our spiritual wealth
We have been fed a big lie
And we are wallowing in a pool of selfishness
We wait for sickness, disaster or death to show us our nakedness
It's time to open our eyes
And see our true selves
We are a people of hope, faith and Love
