Susan, you are welcome to respond to all, some, or none of my 'comments', but i rarely return to a poem's page, so i most likely would not know if you do or not. :) bri
I shall continue responding to comments on my poems- it's what I do- - my Momma raised a polite girl!
(cont.) single-handed vs. single-handedly? it is six of one and half a dozen of another*** ....as far as which one a person/poet uses. i found in one Google source that British English tends more towards single-handed than American English does. BUT WHY, you may ask, am i bothering with such stuff? the 'devil makes me do it'! ! ! *** meaning: The alternatives are the same, i.e. both are ok with Bri! to MyPoemList. bri ;)
single-handedly would have sent that line into a bumpy ride so I shall stick to poetic when writing a poem or striving to write one... thank you for placing on your fav list
(cont.) i enjoyed alliteration blinding blazing. technically, you would not have knelt (past tense of kneel) on any body part OTHER THAN your knee or knees, but it's ok; i do stuff like that in poems sometimes: state the obvious. sweat/beset works nicely for me. Talk of melodrama! ! ! i 'love' these lines, more than the others; is it possible? ? : Waving goodbye to all I love and hold dear. I marched out to the battlefield (cont.)
congratulations! ! ! you are right... one doesn't have to state the obvious such as knelt on my knees BUT it rolls poetic so I shall continue in my perverse style, rebel that I am
(cont.) for readers not informed of European history: Waterloo, Battle of. A battle in Belgium in 1815 in which the British and Prussians defeated the French under Napoleon Bonaparte. Napoleon abdicated as emperor a few days after this final defeat, and a few weeks later he was captured and sent into exile. ... :) i watched the reenactment on Toute l'Histoire, but i don't understand French, so.... [and i lie sometimes; this whole sentence is a bunch of lies! ]. (cont.)
I am guessing 99.9% of the PH members know what the Battle of Waterloo is
i like a heroic, but believe an heroic is admissible also. :) i checked spelling of armor; it didn't seem 'right'. It is good! (of course) But it got me thinking (!) , something i try NOT to do. steel armor, though very protective, can be immensely-heavy and, i'd imagine, somewhat cumbersome, ...though i never tried one on. and....watch the spelling always; you'd look pretty funny wearing an armoire. (cont.)
Hmmm... had me checking my spelling which I am usually spot on about- -spelling of armor was correct so I'm not following your argument, if my spelling is all right why should I have to watch it? ? I am guilty of miss-typing though but I no longer apologize for that because my eyesight is having problems.
Ah, Susan, you celebrate too soon. Nature’s forces will keep on coming. But perhaps, faster than me, you’ve made peace with this (and find hope in it) . The theme of the struggle against nature is behind a number of my poems. See, for starters, Losing Battle. Hoping this finds you tip top, Glen
Hahahahahahahaha, I noticed that last night while my daughter and I took on the evergreens and rose bush. I'll be pinning the medal of honor on her soon!
along with the very good days, very bad days also deserve an equal honored place in a poem. very nice poem and a reminder recorded of a battle won.
ah, but Glen reminds me I will have to repeat this battle many a time through this season- but I have fellow soldiers now- my daughter can trim a rose bush like a champion! Thank you for reading and I hope you enjoy my weird sense of humor.
I'll have to send you over some of my ground elder. Talk about digging for victory. But I'm sure you'd send it packing with your usual heroism! That's one thing I love about Spring. Suddenly remembering all those little outdoor jobs you should have done in the Autumn. My father always said.. Tackle the garden when it's at its weakest just after the Fall! It's a really funny poem and I'll put it among my favourites, Sue the Weed-Slayer.
hahahahahahahahahaha. I read this comment in notifications and I just knew it was from you! ! ! I dashed over and there you are. I am ashamed to say that the older I get the more enervated by the heat of the summer I am and by the time I feel like doing the autumn garden chores- it is snowing.. Sue the Weed Slayer deserves the spring battles. Thank you for liking my humor to the point you put this in your fav list.
an epic of a poem that is full of heroic deeds and to the victor the spoils? ...which I guess are sore knees! ...........battle hardened written Susan.
hahahahahahahaha The Sore Knee Medal of Valor! ! ! So glad to see you got into the spirit of the thing! Thank you, my friend! !
There was bravery and there was loss of life that will not soon be forgot. - - Too much tension you've built, from beginning to end, so much so that i couldn't help laughing when i found myself cheated towards the last lines...Very playful and very delicious, hahaha.A real trick and treat :) 10++++++ Perdita
Hahaahaha! Love your description of this- -trick or treat! ! ! ! Thank you for telling me how you felt as you were carried from line to line and for enjoying a good laugh! ! ! You're a peach, Perdita! ! ! Thank you too for the starry-eyed 10's! ! ! ! !
Hazel, if it made you laugh, I am pleased. A laugh is one of the best gifts to give a friend. Thank you for your encouragement!
Wow- Susan, I was thinking it was a real battle and I was sweating till I knew the truth. Thanks for this humorous write.
hehehe- -I had a bit of fun with this. It started out as an ordinary tale of gardening then my weird sense of humor took over... hope it put a grin on your face and a smiley face in your heart!
Love the humour, Susan....This is reminding me of Raold Dahl....and the idea that when the ordinary is made epic, it is also somehow relatable. A perfect 10, Susan.
Mj, my friend! I am so glad you enjoy my sense of humor- it is so warped at times. I also feel endorsed when you said the idea that when the ordinary is made epic, it is also somehow relatable. WoW. What a wonderful thing to hear- I sometimes am embarrassed about my humor poems- now you made me feel... endorsed! ! ! Thank you for your comment and the lovely 10! ! ! .
Still undaunted he marches to the battlefield. Here you have created an ideal soldier who faces a large number of foes single handed and comes back victorious in a battle! Love this Mock Heroic Epic! A trivial incident of removing the weeds of a garden is dramatized as a big battle of heroic proportions like that of Waterloo! (10)
Bless you for welcoming the double-cross! ! ! Thank you for really diving into this poem, forgiving me for the trickery, and for giving it a 10! ! ! You are a game person, full of pluck and a sense of humor!
I see here the diligence and devotion to the duty of a soldier! At the call of duty, he never hesitates and walks to the battlefield to face his enemy! He never wavers, nothing hinders him from the discharge of his duty. He even expects the possibility of never coming back alive!
Valsa, you are a joy. You don't just read a poem, you see it as a play or a movie! ! I'm glad you two-parted your answer- it lets me know how well my poem communicated itself to you and how much you enjoyed the fun of being led up the garden path- so to speak!
A Very Powerful And Moving One! ! ! ! ! May Your Garden Bloom With Joyful Tunes In All You Do! ! ! ! ! :) Thank You Ever So Much For Sharing This! ! ! ! ! Endless 10S! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! +++++
Thank you, may your blossoms bloom huge and colorful with the sweetest fragrance ever, my dear Becca. Thank you for those excited 10's! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
Ahhhhhh, thank you my friend! ! ! ! You have a great soul and a great mind! ! !
Yes, Yes! I had noticed the title of the poem, which was enough to warm me of your intentions. Again, hats off to dear Susie.
haahahahahaha... I see I am going to have to get trickier and trickier to get something past you! ! ! ! I could and should have changed the title to something else and put Garden loo toward the last line or two of the poem. But all in all, I am glad you are difficult to trick!
Hi And I have posted a Malayalam translation of your poem, Long Journey.... I just want you to have a look.
Had to revisit this great poem today, Susan. I was fighting the battle most of the afternoon. Went into the campaign feeling like Wellington, left like Napoleon. There's always tomorrow!
hahahahahahahahahaha That was a totally awesome comment! ! ! ! !
