The Auctioneer's Voice In The Shadows Poem by Duane R Botzek

The Auctioneer's Voice In The Shadows

He is seated in the outer dimmer light
He's voice echoing in the lighted auction ring
The clouded light of day behind him
Beyond the cattle
Beyond the crowd
His voice throws shades and shadows of light

One voice commands the auction ring in the tent
And onto pages of cattle cards before him
In his mind he makes each animal's history come alive
Her dam, her dam's dam
Her sire, her sire's sire
In words he has written on each shuffled page

His other voice is of the now and the future
How she is and dreams of what she will be
A master in voice
Does one voice hide inside the other?
As his voice dances in a chant
Lifting, building, moving you
Pulling you in to where
He wants you to go

Caught in the light
Moving in darkness
Its my auction
My time to let go
