Around the ant,
huge footsteps thunder.
The ant watches
as enormous feet descend.
Their sudden falls
leave him trembling, witless.
Unerring, they land,
crushing all
beneath their shadow—
even his own.
The ant
understands this.
He avoids the shadow
of his own feet,
taking timid,
tiny steps forward.
