On reading the poem, the first thing that caught my attention is the neat rhyme scheme adhering to a sonnet in the Miltonic pattern. Concerning the theme and its treatment the poet mixes both ends of the village culture which reels under superstition and accommodates modern thinking. The plight of the villagers, the domination of the powerful, the exploitation by religious priests, the attitude of the youth and the state law et all are superbly presented through a poetic narration that will linger in the minds of the readers for a long time.
