That Happy Time Poem by Jayne Louise Davies

That Happy Time

How happy were we,
As children there was so much to see.
We didn't play on computer games all day,
We'd pick flowers in the local wood,
Being outside,
Was the highlight of our day.
Fresh air,
Blue skies,
We lived for fun.
How happy were we,
Sitting beneath the sun,
With bluebells all around us,
Birds singing in the trees,
We weren't afraid of a bit of dirt,
As we played in the summer breeze.
Long walks to the mountain top,
Looking down on life,
Times were, oh so much simpler back then
A time of joy from morning till night.
Music on the radio,
Enjoyed by one and all,
Three channels on the old tv,
Playing ball on the old garden wall.
Mum in the kitchen,
Washing clothes in the old twin tub,
No fancy clothes,
No fancy food,
Just hearty, healthy grub.
And that was how it was back then,
As plain as plain can be,
Take me back to those golden days,
When we were,
As happy as can be.
