This is remarkable, Anne, you say so much in just a few words, I marvel at your success. And you turn a situation that could be one of bitterness and accusations into a positive statement of readiness for whatever the future might bring. I sense in the poem a sharp rebuke to the other person for losing faith in you and not being able to accept the changes that you see as positive and creative. In the last two lines you thank that person for being a factor in your development which includes your liberation. And your not wasting any more energy on this person by arguing and fighting. What's the use? the future you are facing, that is calling you, will not include him/her. You can see it took me more words to explain this poem than for you to write. And that is a measure of your success as a poet! !

Although i am not mainly driven by the ambition of being a successful poet, still, really happy to be acknowledged by you. 'when you're old and grey and full of sleep, and nodding by the fire, take down this book, and slowly read', i wish when i am old, the book i take down to read, will be this one that i am still writing
