(Coronavirus 2021)
Old grandmother, isolated in lock-down against Coronavirus
Not seeing children or grandchildren, many years a widow
Only pet dog for company, chirpy budgie in a cage
Daily fears the virus will strike her into the grave.
Spends days worrying about family and friends
Speaking with them on the telephone, seeing them on skype
As they try keeping her spirits bright with hope alive.
Nights are worst, lying abed, mind engulfed with terrors.
One day begins to cough, finds it hard to breathe
Has high temperature, tiring climbing stairs needing to rest.
Calls the doctor, ambulance rushes her to hospital
Doctors and nurses fight the virus for her life.
Alone, without family, she dies victim of the epidemic
One among millions already mourned world-wide.
