Teenage Summer Work Holidays Finishing Poem by Terence George Craddock

Teenage Summer Work Holidays Finishing

both my teenage daughters
are still lost under the covers

hibernating deep in slumber sleep
it is not 1: 30 PM in the afternoon yet

the eldest is resting from multiple barista shifts
many extra coffees made in summer tourist rush

home from Canterbury University first year studies
transition year completed this year flatting in a house

first year single flat room living with four other students
in Ilam Student Accommodation on university campus

in two days Kayla departs leaves hometown Westport
drives Lewis Pass Southern Alps back to Christchurch

the youngest Rachael is sleeping off check out New
World Supermarket all day eight hour standing shifts

still two more years high school studies
two more years before leaving nest

year eleven twelve exams wait
before high school graduation
