Tannakin (Scene 9) Poem by John Fenton Mcleish

Tannakin (Scene 9)

scene 9

for love or money
*
Anne and edward are getting married at the whitehall palace.Church bells chime.Trumpets sound.Full pomp and ceremony as usual. The queen is in attendance.
*
The official ceremony is over.Everything went according to plan.Edward is rotten drunk.Anne is waiting for edward in the bed chamber.
Edward stumbles into burghleys study.Burghley is standing behind his desk.Burghley doesnt speak, he points to a large chest sitting on a table.Edward walks over to the chest and opens it.It's full of gold coins.Annes dowry.Edward closes the chest and turns to burghley. He nods and walks out of the study without speaking. As he exits he motions to his guard to take the chest.
Edward stumbles through the hallway to the bed chamber.Anne is lying in bed waiting. She is only fifteen and she is terrified. The door bursts open and edward walks in.He rips his shirt off and pounces on anne.Edward ravages her.The hatred he has for burghley, he takes out on anne. The sex is brutal. When he's finished he turns over on his side and falls asleep.Anne lies on her back with the blankets pulled up, staring at the ceiling. She is bleeding and she is sore but her love for edward numbs the pain.Although she is in pain, she is happy. She feels like the happiest person in the world.Little does she know it won't last.Anne has married for love but edward has married for money.Contented, she stares up at the ceiling. Her eyes close and she falls asleep.
