scene-3
*
breakfast with the burghleys
*
*
Anne awakes in the morning. She suddenly remembers the commotion from the day before. She jumps out of bed and hurries to get dressed. She then rushes to the dining hall.Inside, already seated at the table is lord burghley and his wife mildred cooke(annes mother) .Anne takes a seat next to her mother. They all sit silently awaiting the arrival of edward. They wait and they wait, but edward doesn't come.Burghley and mildred exchange glances but nothing is said.Anne looks at both of them and can clearly see the frustration/anxiety building.Out of nowhere the doors burst open, they all jump with fright.Anne rushes to her mother, as edward barges in followed by his footmen stumbling after him, and takes a seat.He acknowledges nobody. He then begins eating.Burghley and the rest of the family follow, although somewhat hesitantly. Not a word is spoken. The silence is deafening.Suddenly edward rises and without saying a word storms out the door(with his servants trailing) .Burghley and mildred glance at one another and give a sigh of relief.
