In 1929
The Blue Comet became a railroad line
When trains to Atlantic City were all the rage
The Blue Comet entered the stage
Art Déco, the fashion
Luxury travel, the passion
People seeking a thrill
Atlantic City fit the bill
No money was spared
1st class amenities with the working were shared
2 tone colors of blue and cream
Plus a shiny blue engine of steam
Comfortable chairs and
Uniformed waiters serving a meal
Only added to its appeal
So popular was the Blue Comet
Lionel made a trainset of it
But Depression realties hampered its success
Ridership became less and less
Then on August 19th "39"
The train approached a storm
"Use caution" the engineer was warned
But soon he would find
Pine Barren storms are less than kind
No way to turn back
The Blue Comet was washed off the track
Fortunately passengers were few
Thankfully not many in need of rescue
The Comet repaired, and went on
Now its attraction was all but gone
World War 2 brought tragedy
However also created prosperity
Car ownership increased more and more
People had a new way to "go down the shore"
September 1941
The Blue Comet made its last run
So it is no mystery
Why the Blue Comet faded into history
