Taken For Granted Poem by Ayokunle Adeleye

Taken For Granted

Taken for granted-
That is how I feel.
'That was never warranted, '
I defended with all my zeal

If she was tired of me
She could have told me so;
She must like being around me
As she never said 'Go'

At first it was subtle
Then between my heart and my head suspicious began to shuttle
Later it became obvious
That my gentle-as-a-dove has turned vicious

But could it be
That she started it
So I could see
I was no longer fit?

Because this is more than anger
It is a lack of love
After her I did hanker
And now I'm no longer her love!

But even if she loves him
And no longer 'loves' me
My liveliness will not dim:
She is not indispensable to me!
