Swept Away Poem by Richard D Remler

Swept Away

Rating: 5.0

.......

Merlin O'Hervey
Went to sea
In an old canoe
Half as big as he.
Where he fought the tides
That clipped his shore,
To sail a sea he'd
Never known before.

He watched the world
Fall and rise
Under twilight's bent and
Jeweled skies.
And as he felt the ocean
Laugh and weep,
He heard her talking
In her sleep.

She spoke of legends
New and old.
She told him tales
Of Dragon's Gold.
Of Castles buried
In the snow
Where the ghosts
Of time
No longer go.

She spoke of Pirate Ships
And Buccaneers!
Of battles fought
With flaming spears...
And the starry blue
Above him sighed
A sigh that danced
The ocean wide.

And Merlin's heart
Remembered fair
Every tale she'd
Whispered there...
As the twilight
Ushered in the day,
And the quiet sea
Swept him away.
