Swayamvar An Indian Betrothal

Rating: 5.0

If you google ''Swayamvar''
it means a time of betrothal
for a princess
where all rich princes assemble
to have her hold their hand
She is the princess rich and could be Queen
some day

So many come with garlands of gold and diamonds
her beau hides in a corner
just with a marigold garland
poor shy guy
she walks up to him
then places her own diamonds garland
walks up to the pa King and bows

Amazed is he
she has chosen
a no bee
angry is he...
she will make him lose his Kingdom...
other Kings will yell...
so her he tells...

‘'Change your mind gal
or you can about turn walk
out of the Palace
unharmed yet...''

She abandons the scene

Long may live the King
and said

‘'A bird in hand
is better that two
in the bush....''

‘but not one
in a foreign land'

So father excuse me
I am now 18
now there lies nothing common in between
you and me
as you have already given a judgement
without asking me to defend myself

My 'choice' is the son of QUEEN La Paris....
he wanted to know your reactions...

Now we take your leave
We bow...
my King later
but first my POP....

SHE SHED SOME CROCODILE TEARS
as was customary....

Wait! ! !
she heard!

Exquisitely crafted poem woven around the ancient practice of 'Swayamvar' organised by a king for his daughters of marriageable age to which kings and princes were invited. Captivating narrative. Loved reading it. Thank you so much.
