Superfluous Poem by Nellie Isabelle Steward Cooper

Superfluous

Back in the day, eons ago, an afar time when us old people were young

I can attest to this, being old now, considered an antiquity by many

A curious gathering of mottled peeps would congregate on South Market Street

At Triangle Park, across from the liddle Cab Stand, transportation being in demand

In the city of Asheville, NC not a small place at all, oh no u are very misinformed

Not as in incy... a quite small place... lest there be any confusion regarding the matter

Down from the YMI....Why Am I? ? ? is self realization risky and always so necessary..?

We were a nice and cozy lot even though the temps would dip a bit, well below freezing

With wind chill it becoming quite airish, ... tis time to bundle up so as not to catch cold

Buy a double duce or two to warm us up, then we sit down looking all around... our place

Get a snack at New Ritz Café if need be...gatherings do get hungry from time to time

Bele Chere, M.L.K Park, .. Goombay... no need to pay your way.. just enjoy the day

We had it all y'all... way-back-when... through all kinds of weather we were together..

Reflecting back there was Sue Purple who would usually be with us... so stylish and so chic

Purple from head to carefully painted toes... sharp purple fingernails, and purple all the rest

Sue Purple with us was really quite a sight, especially at nite, ...have fun with all your mite
