Sun Yat-Sen: In The City Battles Fought Here, dark-Red Hot Blood Gushed And Splashed Everywhere, 孫中山 是役也 碧血橫飛 浩氣四塞

PREFACE TO A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE HUANGHUAGANG MARTYRS
-- by Sun Yat-Sen (1866 - 1925)
-- Translated by Frank CYue

是役也,碧血橫飛,浩氣四塞,
草木為之含悲,風雲因而變色,
全國久蟄之人心,乃大興奮。

In the city battles fought here,
Dark-red hot blood gushed and splashed everywhere,
Soared high the spirit of Righteousness fair!
All the grass and trees oozed with grief and woes;
Changing hue, the winds and clouds in awe froze!
The hearts of my countrymen, long subdued,
Great excitation exuded!

怨憤所積,如怒濤排壑,
不可遏抑,不半載而武昌之大革命以成。

The stored, hardened anger and grief
Crushed like successive mountains of ocean waves, once relieved.
O! How great and unstoppable --
The Empire, in six months, the Wuchang Revolution toppled!

則斯役之價值,直可驚天地、泣鬼神,
與武昌革命之役並壽。

In Canton this Third Revolt --
(Like a winged, fearless bolting colt,)
Stirring up the Gods and Spirits, Heaven and Earth --
With the Wuchang Revolt, to a New Nation gave birth!
