Summer rolls on
Blooms and gardens at their best
nourished from previous heavy rains
Crops grown full and high
await harvesting for winter storage
Grasses soft, green and lush
perfect for picnics, relaxing
Soft berries, juicy and plump
have yielded their delicious fruit,
long gone to market in plastic baskets
fresh and ready for immediate eat
Maybe, for the more ambitious,
preserving in glass jars or cans
Niagara peaches are coming into their own,
the luscious creamy flesh, soft and sweet
far surpasses any imported fruit
Home grown corn cobs seasonally plentiful,
each yellow kernel full and firm,
with a burst and scrunch at each bite
Looking up and staring at the sunlit sky
clouds drift by,
forming into white puffy illuminous shapes
moving slowly across the wide blue horizon
Bright rays ceaselessly ripening remaining crops
Apples and pears soon to be at their tops
The glorious summer rolls on
dreaming it will never end
It will though - but not yet
Just for a little longer -
summer rolls on
