Suddenly, Nothing Was Working Poem by Valerie Dohren

Suddenly, Nothing Was Working

Rating: 4.0

Suddenly, nothing was working,
the wheels, they ceased to turn
the moon forgot to rise at night
the sun no more did burn.

Suddenly, nothing was working
the earth, it failed to spin
the clocks began to lose their time
and all the lights grew dim.

Suddenly, nothing was working
and people paused their play
the tide stood still, and all the while
there was no night or day.

Suddenly, nothing was working
The TV's flickered out
computers crashed with WiFi lost
and beansprouts didn't sprout.

Suddenly, nothing was working
and everything waxed pale
my eyes grew blurred, my limbs went limp
my heart began to fail.

Suddenly, nothing was working
I lay flat on my bed
surrounded there in silence, so
I deemed that I was dead.

Then, suddenly all WAS working
the tide, it came back in
the wheels went round and moved again
the earth began to spin.

Yes, all was suddenly working
the sun and moon grew bright
the clocks began to tick once more
and day turned into night.

Well, all IS suddenly working
the screens, have flickered on
all have started to play again
now that the dark is gone.

With everything suddenly working
my eyes are bright and clear
my limbs are strong and full of tone
and death is nowhere near.

So, suddenly all is working
normality restored
my heart is beating hard and fast
with all in full accord.

Ah, suddenly all is working
now we are free of the bug
just like it always did before -
before we pulled the plug.

Well done! Really? Well … overdone … but it is Southport, isn't it … ‘tis a pity …

What's your problem with Southport, it's a lovely town full of lovely people!

The rest of the world is okay. But that's the English, well some of them anyway, prone to exaggerate—like you!

I don't exaggerate, and I'm not rude either!
