Strides With My Dogs Poem by Phil Soar

Strides With My Dogs

The strides I take are laboured now
And so my dogs walk behind me
Theirs are too
No longer able to run, we stroll
No longer able to jump, we sit
Taking in the sights and sounds in the woods

I swear they enjoy these moments
Just sitting
As I do their company

No judgement here
No questions about the meaning of it all
Just their company and my pain

Joyful really
And hopefully will prolong this blissful love
This passion for life all three of us share

10 Legs between us
Striding for pleasure
To our favourite places
And sitting in peace
Among our friends
That is, the other animals we share this with
Long may it continue
Even at our slow pace
