Storm In A Glass Case Poem by Fatima Usman

Storm In A Glass Case

Rating: 5.0

I lived an evening enclosed in a glass case...

I entered with sparkling eyes,
my heart beat elated,
I heard
they were Elite,
had hearts of gold...
But strange was the air
n' stranger was I...
They
chatered about their men,
About maids,
About chauffeurs,
And diamonds
And fashion
And
Sex...
Everything they owned
belonged to a brand,
Price tags on each smile seemed Unreal...
Hair sprayed with stiffness,
Perfumed with deception,
Lips coloured in hypocrisy,
Eyes shaded with malice,
Hearts painted in darkness,
Necks rigidly sprained...!
And,
I was a storyteller,
So
they looked at me
from head to toe,
And placed a price tag
on my chest, saying,
'Worthless! '...

Lovely poem. Hard hitting on the hypocrisy of the so-called elite society. Identifying that one does belong there is very important. Enjoyed reading. Five stars and onto myfav.
