Stony Silence Poem by Valsa George

Stony Silence

Rating: 5.0

There is music slumbering in me
Alas, when I try to pour it out
All that comes out is dead silence
As one with a stone for a tongue

My songs are stuck in my throat
And I choke for breath, for air
As if a noose has been held tight
Around my neck, making me gasp

How I wish to sing my songs
Like the merry birds on tree tops
That burst out in eloquence
In the early hours of the morn

Each time when I make an effort
All I experience is dull vacancy!
Can I ever summon from the abyss,
The notes of a melody frozen inside!

Will waves and ripples of joy
Shake my stagnant waters again
Will twinkling fireflies dance
Once more in the unlit night air

Sometimes we do feel dull, bored, and even dejected for some reason...it is human nature and we get over that after a short while mostly....in this poem you have actually sung your words...it sounds musical...in fact all your poems sound musical...great work

Frustration often leads to good poetry, Valsa. That's one benefit. But as regards the music in you - I hope some trigger will make it flow again. Otherwise, can you play an instrument? Even something simple like a recorder can be a lot of fun to play, and it's not hard to learn. (And not expensive) .

To the question in the last stanza, Valsa, I think they will. Your muse will come and the music find the words and form. Be blessed and inspired, Valsa! -Glen

It has been beautifully inscribed about frustration in this poem in an unique penmanship. Whatever the dark night is it must get morning. Twinkling fireflies will dance once more in the unlit night air. Marvelous poem shared.

A splendid poem that expressed the sense of stony silence within. We all experience this feeling when we want to sing our song but no melodies come out just empty silence. Wonderfully done.10

Beautifully expressed. I think every poet n artist can relate to it. There are moments when you feel shut out from everything, from all life n experience nothing but silence. But though u r experiencing silence, the reader can hear the music of your heart. A big 10.
