Hope is the driving force of every day. A valuable word that makes us believe anything is possible! Keep reaching.
I too was drawn by your use of the word still in its alternative senses. It is a deep and sensitive and ultimately positive poem. you are gaining confidence as a poet and your development as a writer is exciting. as you succeed in taking us along in a journey of exploration. A very fine poem indeed, Annette.
You are using both meanings of still - one means motionless, not moving from Point A to Point B to Point C, etc., just observing, assessing, getting yourself ready for -? ; the other meaning is related tom hope, but it's hard to express this meaning: but what what you mean comes through loud and clear: No matter what has already happened to me, no matter how I failed or been stalled, no matter how much I think I should give up - I choose to go forward, always forward... because I know there are wonders for me out there. That's the power and resolve released in your five-letter word. Excelsior, Annette Aitken!
A thought provoking poem..............................................................
I enjoy how the piece moves from a resigned consideration of the past to the uncertain, yet optimistic, hope of the future. Then the conclusion strongly envisions the horizon of the future, and the author's strength of will to pursue it. I think the casual tone belies the force of the final message, and the contrast makes it that much more effective. An enjoyable and encouraging piece, Annette. Nicely done. :) S
