Just a loner fenced in by yourself,
A virtual recluse you choose to be.
Always afraid to pick up the phone,
To adorning fans a total mystery.
Star! That's what they call you,
It took so long to get where you are.
Star! It's what you wanted,
Hiding from all you keep them afar.
They can forever build you up,
And so easily break you down.
Placing you on their high pedestal,
You begrudgingly wear their crown.
Public demands are just too great,
Endless toils and tears for you they break.
You drink the alcohol, consume the pills,
Your funeral attended with mass heartache.
Star! You're the new one,
You're what the masses constantly demand.
Star! How much can you take,
How long can you live in their dreamland...
A wonderful poem that vividly depicts the world of depression. Liked the title. Beautifully crafted with nice rhyme. Five Stars! ! !
This resonates so much with me in view of Mental Health Day and also remembering people like the lovely Caroline Flack who sadly felt that their 'Stardom' was no comforter to their pain. Well written Shaun especially when dealing with such a sensitive subject 5***** my friend for giving us all cause for thought..Stay well and safe in all respects. Lodigiana x

Wonderful parody of the Kiki Dee song Shaun...very clever! The U.K press/ media seem to build up stars only to bring them down (as you rightly point out in stanza 3) ..I'm thinking of Amy Winehouse here. It's definitely a fame can be fatal inspired five from me.
