St Kabeer's Couplets 39: If Butter's Bestirred From Water

Rating: 5.0

Rid your mind's chariots of desires,
Notso happens as man requires,
If butter's bestirred from water,
No one will eat bread ever bare.

Given here under is the original couplet in Hindi and its transliteration in English Roman.

मन हीं मनोरथ छांड़ी दे, तेरा किया न होई,
पानी में घिव निकसे, तो रूखा खाए न कोई.
Mana hī manorath ćhānđi de, terā kiyā na hoī,
Pānī mein ghiv nikase, to rūkhā khāye na koī.

O leave aside all fancied chariots of desires, wants and wishes— all that ye can't deserve on the strength of your karma. Nothing is in your hand. If ghee can be made from water, no one will eat his bread bare.

Topic: desires, karma, greed

A wonderful poem imbued with wisdom and insight. Desires and greediness are the breeding places of evilness. A well conveyed write.
