St Kabeer's Couplets 34: Body A Bird, Migrates Whence Mind

Rating: 5.0

This body much like a bird is,
Whereso goes mind, thereto it flies.
Whatso the company one keeps,
So be the fruits he reaps.

Given here under is the original couplet in Hindi script, and its transliteration in English Roman.

कबीर तन पंछी भया, जहां मन तहां उडी जाइ,
जो जैसी संगती कर, सो तैसा ही फल पाइ.

Kabeer tan panćhī bhayā, jahān man tahān uđī jāi,
Jo jaisī sangatī kar, so taisā hī phala pāi.

This mortal man's body is like a bird. Whereso goes his mind thereto off it flies. It is true: howso be one's company, so is the fruit he fetches.
