St Kabeer's Couplets 26: Both Bewilder You Badly Poem by Aniruddha Pathak

Gold and gold-weighing seed,
The twain has toxic creed:
Either upon seeing,
Or lose sense on eating.

कनक-कनक तै सौ गुनी मादकता अधिकाय,
वा खाए बौराए जग, या देखे बौराए।

Kanak-kanak tai sau gunī mādaktā adhikāye,
Vā khaye baurāye jag, yā dekhe bautāye.

St Kabeer uses here a pun. Kanak means gold and kanak also means poisonous seeds used in olden days to weigh gold, eating which one would lose sense. In the same way, on seeing gold (a highly precious metal)also one gets bewildered almost losing sense.
