St Kabeer's Couplets 13: Clay Tells A Potter Man… Poem by Aniruddha Pathak

St Kabeer's Couplets 13: Clay Tells A Potter Man…

Rating: 5.0

To potter-man tells pounded clay,
Today ye crush me under feet;
But a day is not far away
The same way shall I thee treat.

Given here under is the original couplet in Hindi script, and its transliteration in English Roman.

माटी कहे कुम्हार से, तू क्या रौंदे मोये
एक दिन ऐसा आयेगा मैं रौंदूंगी तोय।

māţī kahe kumhār se, tū kyā raunde moye;
ek din aisā āyegā mein raundūngī toye.

The wheel of life turns round and round. One day it goes upward and then down turns. Good and bad tidings alternate. It helps if one bears this in mind. A potter man was preparing his clay for his potter wheel by crushing it under his feet to smoothen it into a uniform lump. But a day is going to come when he would die and get buried under soil, when he too would be treated the same way.
