Spit In My Face Poem by Kelvin Rush

Spit In My Face

Spit in my face you'll get no resistance
I'm seconds away from non-existence
Your threats and demands affect me no more
I'm returning back home through the open door

I've spent all my life in search of peace
I've felt heartbreak loss deep sadness and grief
No man alive should attract such pain
Or be forced to be part of this evil game

I've been bribed and controlled right from birth
I never stood a chance on this crazy earth
Sent crying to school with intimidation
To begin my new life of incarceration

I discovered depression and the prison-self
Where you lose your freedom your mind your health
It's impossible to escape no one has the key
No one is allowed to be wise or set free

You can scream all you like it will do you no good
You can grovel and fight and lie cold in your blood
You can follow then swallow the poisonous air
You can shout from the rooftops but no one will care

In the end you will find that nothing is real
Forget pity and compassion it matters not how you feel
I've done all I can to get out of the race
All that's left is to smile as you spit in my face
