Bri, a very rhythmic and enlightening poem. I took it for what it was and enjoyed it very much. In the last two lines I saw nothing offensive, you were just relating a moment of history when things were not kosher and people used words to hurt another's feelings. We have come a long way from that point as you have shown by writing this intelligent poem. Great poem and message. Some people have taken political correctness way to far so as to be more discriminatory than ever towards people. Thank you for sharing. RoseAnn

An interesting poem. Should have put a little more thought into the the last two lines though. But don't call a 'black man' a spade, OR his feelings might be very hurt............ It's not only the person that is being called a 'spade' that would take offence at this remark, Bri.

I agree with Valsa George. Good rhyming in 1st stanza. 2nd stanza rises in my gorge. Who do you thing you are, Sancho Panza?

To call a 'spade a spade', I must say, this poem hasn't risen to your usual level! Still not bad!
