Soul Food Poem by Mark Oloo

Soul Food

It looks different and definitely tastes different
I put it in my mouth and wanted another sip
I put it in my mouth and wanted another bite
That is all I wanted
And this was only for breakfast
And very soon it was my favourite snack
I had it again yesterday for lunch
And it was not long before I was having it for dinner
And recommending it to all my friends
So many had different stories to tell
After they took the first sip and first bite
It was like the Lord's supper
It was more than vital and it was on the diet

After not so long it was more than a habit
That I was trying to break slowly
For it had become a way of life
I undrestood it a bit differently everytime I took it
Was it only supposed to be a meal
Or there was a deeper meaning to this soul food
I wanted
