Sophias Choice. Poem by Sandra Kavanagh Josefsson

Sophias Choice.

She had a choice to be all that was true in this world.
As time went on, she lived that choice
and used her voice.

She could not stand by and let the everyday corruption consume the four corners of the Earth.
She did all in her power
to destroy it and
to banish it.
So it would never appear again,
never in her lifetime ever.

She wanted to hear the sound of children playing in the street.
She wanted to see the elderly having at chat by the garden gate.

She wanted to see people smiling at each other.
People chatting. People hugging.

The doom of the last year was gone.
She could hear singing by an open window.
A baby crying faintly in the distance.
All was as it should be
And she was pleased with the choice
that she had made.
